Famous films such as "The Amphibian Man" and "The Diamond Arm" were filmed in the Old City.

The Palace of the Shirvanshahs is the largest monument of the Shirvan-Absheron branch of Azerbaijani architecture. In the 15th century, due to the rise of the economic and political significance of Baku, which was one of the strongly fortified fortresses and the main port on the Caspian Sea, Shirvanshah Khalilullah moved the residence of the Shirvanshahs from Shamakhi to Baku. The ensemble was not built according to a single architectural plan and consists of a number of structures located according to the terrain on three levels: the main palace building (1420s), Divankhana (1450s), the burial vault-turbe (1435), the Shah's mosque with a minaret (1441), the mausoleum of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi (1450s), and the remains of the Keygubad mosque. The palace buildings include the portal on the eastern side - the Murad Gate (1585), an ovdan, and the remains of a bathhouse. In 1964, the complex was declared a museum-reserve and taken under state protection.

The Maiden Tower is a majestic and the most mysterious monument of Baku, rising in the southeastern part of the Icherisheher fortress. This unique structure of Azerbaijani architecture has no analogues in the East. The monument, around whose construction date and purpose there are numerous disputes, continues to attract the most attention today with its unique shape. There are versions that the tower was originally built as a fire temple or an observatory. However, there is no doubt that in the 12th century, this majestic tower was part of the defensive system of Baku and served as the main citadel of the Baku fortress, one of the most powerful fortresses of the Shirvanshahs.
